He Richard C. Ward Addiction Treatment Center is a 60 bed inpatient facility located in Middletown , New York and has been offering innovative treatment and services to aid in the recovery of addicts and their families. Ward ATC offers Acupuncture Services, a Specialized Women’s Track, Dual Recovery Groups, and a new creative arts program called Inner-visions to help addicts express feelings in healthy ways. The facility (formerly called Middletown ) was recently renamed in honor of its late director, Richard C. Ward. The facility serves a 10 county service area: Columbia Delaware Dutchess Greene Orange * Sullivan Ulster Putnam Rockland Westchester The ATC is licensed and operated by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Criteria for Admission The individual appears to be in need of inpatient chemical dependency services. The individual appears not to be in need of a higher level of care. The individual is unable to participate in or comply with treatment outside of a 24 hour structured treatment setting based on one or more of the following: a living environment not conducive to recovery, physical or mental complications and co-morbidities requiring medical management, a lack of judgment, insights, and motivation such as to require 24 hour supervision. Final admission decisions are always made by the ATCs medical director in compliance with utilization review standards. Individual must reside in catchment area (county covered by ATC) listed in directory. The individual must be at least 18. Under special circumstances, a person under 18 may be admitted. to pay) Services The Addiction Treatment Center is designed to provide an intensive treatment experience with the length of stay determined by individual need. Group and Individual therapy, Women’s Track, Relapse Prevention and Activities therapy are offered. Educational programs on the physical, psychological and social-cultural aspects of addiction and workshops for the acquisition and practice of recovery skills are an important part of Ward’s program. The Women’s Program is based upon the philosophy that women have unique needs that can be addressed in a discrete setting. The core component of this track is a multi-disciplinary treatment team based on the principle of “women treating women.” Gender specific programs address the many barriers that traditionally have blocked women from accessing treatment. Problem Gambling – Individual and group counseling for those affected by problem gambling. Clinical staff on site have specialized problem gambling training and/or credentials and are able to provide direct clinical services as both an individualized issue and as a co-occurring disorder. Patients do not have to have a primary substance abuse diagnosis to be admitted for problem gambling treatment services. Acupuncture Service is also available to aid in withdrawal. New and creative programs have been introduced or are being planned, to enhance non-verbal expression, spiritual growth, and support the acquisition of recovery and relapse prevention skills. These include a Therapeutic Garden to provide a focus for meditation and the re-creation and healing of the wounded self of each patient, and Pet Therapy to aid in the need to experience and express feelings of intimacy, affection, and kindness. Family programs and visiting takes place on Saturdays or Sundays. Significant others are evaluated and needs are integrated into the patient’s treatment plan. Families are provided with basic chemical dependence education, prior to visiting. Family education and referral is available for the family of the client and serves to help the family members to understand the significance of this serious illness. Discharge Plans: An assigned staff member assists all clients in obtaining continued treatment and support services in the community.
