Learn more about Van Dyke Addiction Treatment Center located at 1330 County Road 132, Ovid, NY 14521.
The Van Dyke ATC is a “Tobacco-Free” chemical dependency service (the use or possession of tobacco products and paraphernalia is not allowed and nicotine dependence is treated along with other addictions). Services are provided to address the basic health care needs of each patient while addressing the specific physical, psychological and social symptoms associated with psychoactive substance abuse. Treatment services at the Van Dyke ATC are provided within a healthcare context which recognizes alcoholism and other psychoactive substance dependencies as treatable illnesses of and by themselves, although they may co-exist with other physical and emotional problems. While there are similarities for many in treatment, an individualized treatment plan is developed for each patient and length of stay is determined by treatment progress. Family members and friends who are supportive of the recovery process are encouraged to be actively involved with the treatment experience. Criteria for Admission The individual appears to be in need of inpatient chemical dependency services. The individual appears not to be in need of a higher level of care. Services TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY: Treatment services at the Van Dyke ATC are provided within a healthcare context which recognizes alcoholism and other psychoactive substance dependencies as treatable illnesses of and by themselves, although they may co-exist with other physical and emotional problems. While there are similarities for many in treatment, an individualized treatment plan is developed for each patient and length of stay is determined by treatment progress. Family members and friends who are supportive of the recovery process are encouraged to be actively involved with the treatment experience. Treatment services include group and individual therapy, didactic lectures and presentations which are used as a “teaching mechanism” so patients can learn more of the recovery skills needed to continue with abstinence and recovery. Another aspect of the Treatment Philosophy is the focus on an abstinence based approach to recovery and treatment services are provided 7 days per week, as the disease process continues 7 days per week. Participation in all aspects of the treatment program is required. PERSON CENTERED TREATMENT: The Van Dyke Addiction Treatment Center subscribes to the philosophy of the Person-Centered Approach to treatment with those they serve. What this means is: they work with the goals identified by the patient rather than to impose goals identified solely by the program; they work to identify and to use patients’ strengths, needs, abilities and preferences’ to move forward in treatment; they work with the patient to see how the goals and priorities of the treatment plan are ‘linked’ to their identified goals. They focus on customer service and ask for feedback at several points in the treatment process from those persons they serve. These include an Admission Survey, Facility meetings and completion of the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire. GENDER-SPECIFIC TREATMENT: Separate programs are provided for men and women allowing for the treatment to be tailored to the needs of each gender. Treatment of male patients tends to focus on issues of hostility and resentment toward authority and excessive self-reliance to the neglect of support-seeking. For women patients, the focus tends to be on issues of poor self-esteem and dependency on abusive relationships. TOBACCO-FREE CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY PROGRAM: “Tobacco-free” is a comprehensive approach to the management of nicotine dependence that integrates education, assessment and treatment into the chemical dependency program. ADDICTION MEDICINE: Various addiction medicines are used at the ATC when appropriate and as prescribed by our physician and carefully monitored by our nursing staff. These medicines include: Naltrexone for alcohol cravings Nicotine replacement therapy with patch and gum to aid in nicotine recovery Suboxone for opiate withdrawal or maintenance Acamprosate or Campral to help sustain abstinence Wellbutrin as an aid in nicotine recovery Disulfiram, commonly known as Antabuse, as an alcohol aversion medication.
